2nd International Workshop on Hexagonal SiGe and Related Materials

On the 4th and 5th of April the 2nd  International Workshop on Hexagonal SiGe and Related Materials was held in Milan at the University of Milano-Bicocca. During the workshop participants from several research groups from around the world, that are trying to realise hexagonal phase germanium crystals, came together to collaborate and deepen thir understanding of the subject.

The event featured a variety of talks and discussions about topics ranging from the growth of hex-SiGe nanowires to pressure-induced phase transitions. Our consortium has been highly represented at this workshop, through the invited talks of Erik Bakkers (TU Eindhoven) and Laetitia Vincent (CNRS Paris-Saclay), the contributed talks of the Ph.D. students Baksa Kolok (TU Budapest), Pim van den Berg (University of Twente), Yetkin Pulku (University of Konstanz) and the posters presented by Denny Lamon (TU Eindhoven), Xuming Wang (TU Munich) and Haffsa Ameziane (CNRS Paris-Saclay)

An impression of the event given by one of our members:

It's great to work with such a group of people on the same topic. Every
time we get together we get to see progress in different areas, such as
theory and sample growth. We (at UT) work on transport measurements, and
it's very useful to share experiences together with others doing similar
measurements (from e.g. Optosilicon), even if the material is not
exactly the same. As everybody is working on something related to the
same goal, we spend less time introducing the topics and more discussing
in depth. This allows everyone to get more useful feedback and new ideas
on how to proceed. The amount of relevance is also much higher than at a
generic physics conference.
