Inspiring Young Minds in Quantum and Life Sciences: Celeanum Students Visit the University of Twente

As part of our ongoing mission to engage young minds with the future of quantum science and technology, ONCHIPS coordinator Floris Zwanenburg was proud to host a group of enthusiastic students from Celeanum secondary school at the University of Twente.

The visit was made particularly special thanks to the involvement of three proud Celeanum alumni now researchers at the University of Twente: Saskia Lindhoud, Rik Hogeboom and Floris Zwanenburg. They shared their personal journeys and introduced students to their respective fields of expertise: molecular biology, global water management and quantum technology. Their stories not only showcased cutting-edge scientific developments but also demonstrated the diverse pathways students can pursue after secondary education.

The day’s program offered a dynamic blend of learning and hands-on exploration. Students participated in workshops where they created membranes and developed organs-on-chips, and they discovered the UT campus through an engaging scavenger hunt. A highlight of the day was the liquid nitrogen ice cream activity - a fun and tasty demonstration of rapid freezing and applied science.

We are proud to contribute to initiatives that inspire the next generation to explore careers in STEM.

A warm thank you to the Celeanum students and teachers for their visit, and to the Pre-U deaprtment at the University of Twente for the excellent organization!
