On 14 and 15 September the 4th International Workshop on Hexagonal SiGe and Related Materials took place at the University of Twente in Enschede. ONCHIPS organized and sponsored the workshop, which came to Twente for the first time.
Researchers working on hexagonal silicon and germanium met for two days in the Vrijhof on the UT campus. In its hexagonal form germanium has a direct band gap, so it can emit light. That makes the material interesting for photonics and for spin qubits. The workshop brings experimentalists and theorists together to discuss the progress in the field.
Each session opened with an invited talk. The invited speakers were:
Eleven contributed talks and a poster session during Monday's lunch completed the program. Most of the contributed talks were given by researchers from the ONCHIPS partners. Their work ranged from growing the material to measuring and modeling it. On Monday evening the participants took the bus to Enschede for the workshop dinner at Het Paradijs.
We thank all speakers and participants for two great days. Special thanks go to the scientific committee and to Gabi Maris and Judith Kuipers for organizing the workshop.
